Protests in the East and West against the Injustices and Racism
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” -Nelson Mandela-
During this month in the US, and precisely in Minnesota, a 46-year-old unarmed black man named George Floyd was killed by police officers on a Minneapolis street, which led to protests around the world. These protests were not the result of one incident, but a series of altercations that manifest in long-simmering, systemic racial inequities.
Most people don’t see themselves as racist, but we usually hear sentences such as “ I am from this country I am better than the other one…” “ White people are better than Black people,” “ Boys are better than girls,” and many other statements that have one thing in common, which is Racism.
But if we look deeply into us, we all would seem, racists, we all have been racists someday or the other in some way, because it comes in many different ways, but it still belongs to one root. Surely you have experienced it, talked about it, or thought that because you belong to a particular locality, you are better than that other one.
We all know that racism divides people into “us” and “them” based on our nationality, skin color, or even our religion. It happens when people don’t respect the differences and when they feel that it’s okay to maltreat others.
It may seem to you that racism is just words or actions, but it affects and divide nations because many people have to face this every single day. All the little jokes and insults made are so wrong and hurt people in a very negative way leading to more significant problems. Sometimes people judge others by their appearances when they are supposed to judge them on their personalities. It’s not funny; it hurts.
We are all human beings. We need to see past our physical appearances and realize that judging another based solely on their color is wrong. Everyone is the same and should be treated equally.
“UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL”
No matter our social status or how powerful we feel, we are all equal. We came here by birth and will leave here.
