The KNUH news
The Supreme Prosecutor Office System for Victims of Crimes.
South Korea's Supreme Prosecutor's Office is a prosecution office established in response to the Supreme Court, whose primary mission is to command and oversee the prosecution offices across the country in addition to investigations into various cases. The Supreme Prosecutor's Office has a total of 18 local prosecutors' offices under its wing, including Seoul Eastern, Seoul Southern, Seoul Northern, Uijeongbu, Incheon, Suwon, Chuncheon, Daejeon, Cheongju, Daegu, Busan, Ulsan, Changwon, Gwangju, Jeonju and Jeju. So KNU students living in Chuncheon can quickly get support from the prosecution office.
The prosecution's crime victim support system can be classified as financial support, personal security support, psychological treatment support, and legal support. In the case of financial assistance, a rescue fund may be provided when a crime causes severe economic losses or mental suffering. When expenses such as moving or changing positions have been spent or need to be in, spent addition, bereaved families can receive financial relief if a criminal victim dies. Moreover, foreigners with legal residency status can receive financial support from the prosecution. The Supreme Prosecutor's Office told that they have a three-way translation system in service and can give help by virtue of a system of interpreter for counseling and support.
The Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office serves as the guardian of the victim in court and accompanies them to court. Also, psychological treatment institution provides psychological treatment for victims of violent crimes and their families. The company currently operates "smile centers" in 13 regions nationwide. Also, it is possible to request a change of guardian through the Supreme Prosecutor's Office for counseling on the law, support public defenders, and child abuse cases.
In the past, the system was too hard to use for the victims. Because there were so many documents to file for help, and the process was complicated, either. However, now the Supreme Prosecutors Office is reducing procedures and promoting the system for victims of crimes. These reforms of the Supreme Prosecutor Office would be desirable for the victims. I hope the crime damaged Chuncheon residents and students at Kangwon National University can also make use of the system more accessible.
